Winter is here and is telling you to hydrate!

Hello Beauties!!

Did you know that February is self love month? I had no idea!!

However here in Minnesota we are entering the part of winter that starts to feel like its never going to end! Where toes are cold, hands get chapped, and our skin and hair overall is screaming for moisture. So, lets talk about the best products and/or services that give you all your hair and skin need and make you feel amazingly pampered.

Ever put on your winter hat and gotten hit in the face with hair that has the worst static cling? I think it’s fair to say most people reading this have. Though dry hair can be caused by medical issues (I’m a big one for asking how your thyroid is) this time of year it’s usually environmental. So, what do you do when that’s the case? Glad you asked…

In salon Deep Conditioning Treatments

A great add on to any service or an excellent way to pamper yourself on your next me day. You’re in salon treatment starts with a relaxing shampoo followed by a customized conditioning treatment applied to your hair. 30 minutes snuggled under the dryer with a glass of wine or coffee will have you in a great mood.

Let’s talk the different in salon treatments available…

1) This first one is what I would think of as a quick drink of hydration. Your hair is in great/good shape but it’s winter and dry and could use something to sip on. Also, great when you’re in a hurry but want an extra head massage in the bowl. Cost $10

2) The next one is a deep conditioner with a kick. Tailored to your hairs needs with an added shot of a sealer. Grab a magazine, a cup of coffee or tea and get warm under the dryer for 15 - 20 minutes. Cost $20

3) The mask itself is a cocktail of goodness. A combination of hydrating, repairing, and shine enhancing conditioners depending on what your hair is craving with a kick of GK bombshell treatment to really lock it in and seal the cuticle. I kid you not your hair feels so soft and silky. I love this one for blondes and clients who do full GK Taming Treatments. Cost $45

Looking for something for at home to keep your in-salon treatment going? Well look no farther! Here are my faves!

Daily you can apply a leave in conditioner from mid-shafts to ends of hair. I love Goldwell’s 6 effects serum. It’s light weight and can be used on wet or dry hair. Just a couple of pumps is all you need. Will run you about $22 per bottle.

Need a little more or have medium to course hair? Olaplex has two different options. The first I use on everyone in my chair at the salon. It’s No. 6 leave in creme. I like to take just a pea sized amount in my hands after blow drying and run it through mid-shafts and especially on ends. They also have a great light weight oil that is a leave in.

Now through February 29th when you come in for or add a luxury or Gk deep conditioning treatment to your service, you’ll get a full-sized deep conditioning treatment to take home with you free.

But it’s not just your hair that is screaming for some extra love right now. One of my favorite people also happens to be an esthetician and my next- door neighbor at Sola.

Amanda Engstorm of Faces by Amanda kindly passed along some tips and tricks to get your skin through the winter season!

Being that my business is in Minnesota, a common skin concern for my clients is DRYNESS.

Dryness is the lack of oil on your skin, which causes Trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL). Luckily, I have some hacks to beat the dry, flaking, angry skin of winter.

EXFOLIATION is KEY for those with dry skin, as most people have a buildup of dead/dry skin which makes it impossible for those hydrating products to penetrate and make an actual difference in your skin! Not all exfoliants are made equal, and my favorite for dry skin is the “Ultra-Hydrating Enzyme Masque” by Glymed Plus, as it gently exfoliates with Papaya and Pineapple enzymes that “eat up” your dead skin cells. Simultaneously, it infuses hydrating and plumping hyaluronic acid, along with other nourishes like Calendula, Lavender, and other emollients. Vitamin C helps to neutralize free radicals and promote collagen production.

HYALURONIC ACID - this is a must for anyone with dry skin, and typically it is most effective in the form of a serum. Why is it so effective? It can bind up to 1000x its weight in water, which obviously hydrates, but also plumps the skin. This is safe for all skin types, including acne and during pregnancy.

SEAL IT IN - hyaluronic acid and other hydrating serums will actually have a reverse effect and DRY you out if you don’t seal it in with an emollient rich moisturizer. I have a few favorite moisturizers, but my favorite lately has been the Intense Peptide Moisturizer by Glymed Plus, as it has the anti-aging properties of peptides and gives the perfect amount of hydration without feeling greasy or too thick
